Most nutrition advice is built for perfect weeks. Yours isn't. Here's what actually works.

Matt Higgins - Performance Nutrition coach

Hey, I'm Matt.

A performance nutrition coach based in Kāpiti Coast, New Zealand.

I work with people whose weeks are genuinely demanding. Long days, back-to-back meetings, travel, training, family. The kind of schedule where your best intentions fall over by Wednesday.

I help them build a nutrition system that actually holds when pressure goes up. Not a meal plan. Not a diet. A system designed around your real week.

If that sounds useful, the audit is a good first step. It's free, it's 30 minutes, and you'll leave with a clear picture of where your nutrition is breaking down and what to do about it.

THE PROBLEM

If any of this sounds familiar, keep reading.

You're not lazy. You're not undisciplined. You've tried things. Some of them worked… until life got in the way.

Your Monday plan usually falls apart by Wednesday

You're running on caffeine, meeting snacks, and willpower that runs out

You're sharp in the morning and flat by mid-afternoon

You know what you should eat. Executing it under pressure is the problem

Airports, client dinners, and back-to-back days derail everything

You feel it in your decisions, your patience, your sleep

None of that is a character flaw. It's a system problem.

WHY IT KEEPS HAPPENING

It’s not a discipline problem.

Most nutrition approaches fail under pressure because they're designed for perfect weeks. Most weeks aren't perfect. Here are the three traps that keep people stuck.

01

THE DIET TRAP

“I need a better diet”

Most nutrition advice is built around what to eat in an ideal week. Your week is not ideal. The advice collapses because the context doesn't match.

02

THE WILLPOWER TRAP

“I need more discipline”

Willpower depletes under cognitive load. When your week is demanding, your decision-making capacity shrinks. Systems don't deplete. Discipline does.

03

THE PATIENCE TRAP

“I’ll sort it when things calm down”

They don't calm down. And even if they did, the system needs to work in your actual life… not a quieter version of it.

THE SYSTEM

Built for the week that actually happens.

This isn't a diet. It's not tracking. It's not willpower-based. It's a personalised system built around your real constraints. This reduces the number of decisions you have to make and makes consistency automatic, even when your week falls apart.

PHASE 01

Diagnose

We map your week properly. Where does your nutrition break first? What's the actual constraint? We don't start building until we've diagnosed the real problem.

PHASE 02

Stabilise

We build simple anchors. The minimum viable changes that steady your energy and stop the crash cycle. No overhaul. Just the highest-leverage starting points.

PHASE 03

Systemise

We build your playbook. Defaults for busy days, Plan B strategies for travel and late nights, protocols for weeks that go off-script.

PHASE 04

transfer

You run the system yourself. The goal is that you don't need me. You understand the principles and can adapt on your own.

No obligation. 30 minutes. You'll leave with a clear picture.

A BIT ABOUT ME

Built in elite sport.
Applied to real life.

I'm Matt Higgins. I've spent 10+ years working in elite sporting environments where the margin for error is small and the weeks are long.

I've worked as a performance nutritionist in Super Rugby, Head of Performance in NZ’s rugby National Provincial Championship, and with athletes from academy level through to international. I now work with business owners and busy professionals who hold themselves to the same standards, but without the same support structures around them.

What I noticed at every level: the people who struggle aren't lacking knowledge or motivation. They're lacking a system that survives real pressure. That's what I build.

EXPERIENCE

10+ years in elite sporting environments, 3 national titles. Athletes from academy level through to international.

Performance nutritionist in Super Rugby. High-stakes environments where the system has to hold every week.

Head of Performance in NPC rugby. Responsible for the whole performance system under competition pressure.

Now applying the same systems thinking to the real pressures of demanding professional life

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

Working with Matt was a game-changer. What I expected to be just nutrition coaching turned into a full performance upgrade. Matt showed me how to fuel around training, recover smarter, and build the mindset to perform. I wasn’t just following a plan, I was learning a system I can use for life.

Dj M.

Operations Coordinator National Weightlifter

A simple, proven approach that helped me drop weight and feel so much better. Matt is completely non-judgemental, he meets you where you’re at, but brings the same expertise he uses with high-performance athletes.

Paul A.

General Manager Tennis and Golf enthusiast

Before working with Matt, I had no real understanding of how nutrition actually drives performance. He gave me the structure and knowledge I needed to fuel properly and start progressing physically. My mindset got sharper, my habits improved, and I became more consistent across the board.

16-WEEK PROGRAMME

"Sixteen weeks ago I was just eating what I felt like and hoping for the best. Now I follow the PEC framework so I know exactly what to eat based on my trainings and competitions. The shift in my mindset around food has been huge. I'm much more in tune with my sleep, energy, and what my body actually needs to get through heavy training blocks and long days on my thesis. When I'm not eating properly now, it's really noticeable. The knowledge I've gained from this is crazy, the transformation has been unreal."

THE FIRST MONTH

"I'd get myself so caught up trying to figure out the 'right' way to eat that I'd just give up. Then hunger would hit and I'd grab whatever. Three weeks in, I'm baking healthy muffins at 7am... something I didn't think I had time for. Matt built a system around my actual constraints: travel, early mornings, chaotic weeks. Simple anchors I don't have to think about. Now I know what to pack for flights, what to order in the lounge, and how to stay consistent even when the week falls apart. If you know what you should be doing but can't execute it when life gets busy, this works."

EXECUTION GAP

I used to know what I should be eating. That wasn't the problem. The problem was making it work when my week was under load. Matt built simple systems that actually held under pressure. Things like '3 before 3, 5 before 9' sound basic, but they're the difference between reactive eating and having a system you don't need to think about. What stood out was how scientific his approach was without being complicated. I wasn't just following a plan, I understood why it worked and how to adapt it when things changed.

COMMON QUESTIONS

STRAIGHT ANSWERS.

  • It's a 30-minute call. We look at your week. Your schedule, your constraints, where your nutrition breaks down.

I'll diagnose the key friction points and tell you what the highest-leverage changes are for your specific situation. You'll leave with a clear picture of the problem and what to do about it, whether or not you work with me.

  • No. Meal plans prescribe what to eat in ideal conditions. Most people's conditions aren't ideal. What I build is a system. Defaults, decision rules, plan B strategies that holds up when your week goes off-script. The goal is fewer decisions, not more rules.

  • Probably yes, and that's exactly the point. Most people who struggle with nutrition aren't lacking knowledge. They're lacking a system that survives execution under pressure. If you know what to do but can't make it stick when things get busy, that's a system problem, not a knowledge gap.

  • Yes… and honestly, that's who this is designed for. Part of Phase 3 is building your travel protocol specifically: airport options, hotel strategies, client dinner navigation, late-night arrivals. The system is designed around your worst week, not your best one.

  • Two 60-minute calls, every fortnight.

In-between, messaging support (within 24 hours, weekends included).

A short video module between each call — practical frameworks for the weekly work-on. Usually 10-15 minutes long with personalised resources or action steps relevant to your week and what you have going on.

  • Most people notice energy and consistency improvements within the first 2-4 weeks. The full system, one that holds across different week types takes 3-4 months to properly embed. That's why 16 weeks is the recommended runway. Billing is monthly.

  • There's no lock-in. Monthly billing, cancel anytime.

If you try it and it's not the right fit, you stop. I'd rather you have a clear picture of whether this suits your situation in the free audit… that's exactly what that conversation is for.

If any of this resonated, let's talk.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

The audit is free. It's 30 minutes. You'll leave with a clear picture of where your nutrition is breaking down and whether 1:1 coaching is the right next step.

No obligation. No hard sell. Just a proper conversation.
